Community Engagement

The DC4 Davidson County Residential Recovery Court Program has been recognized by numerous agencies as a positive force on our Tennessee communities.

Community Service Requirement

Our therapeutic community program teaches sustainable recovery principles and prosocial community reintegration. As such, under the watchful direction of a Community Service Supervisor, each participant must perform at least 300 hours of community service work while enrolled in the intensive residential component of our program. This program requirement largely occurs at the DC4 campus; however, with proper planning and coordination, some participants can complete some of their hours with local non-profits and governmental agencies within the larger Davidson County Metro area.

Requests for assistance with service projects may be directed to dc4admissions@jisnashville.gov.

Community Service Requirement

The treatment problem to be addressed is not the substance but the person

  • The pattern of substance use is less important than the psychological or behavioral disorders

  • Recovery involves habilitation for many substance-use-disordered individuals

  • Recovery is a life-long process involving continuing growth

  • Treatment involves learning and becoming committed to shared community values

  • Treatment encompasses a multidimensional approach involving therapy, education, and skill development

  • Treatment involves recognizing responsibility and developing appropriate behavioral alternatives

  • Clinical staff serve as role models for shared community values

  • Senior residents acquire increasing responsibility for administrative and maintenance functions

  • Problem-solving in the community is a combined responsibility of the residents and the staff

  • Privileges are related to treatment progress

  • The daily program schedule includes therapeutic, educational, and vocational goals

  • Work is used to reinforce the values of the community

  • There are phase-specific goals that residents are expected to meet

  • Program encompasses the development of autonomous, prosocial decision-making skills

  • Program involves increasing privileges and more responsible job functions

Treatment Program Objective

The primary goal for all clients participating in the Davidson County Residential Recovery Court Program is to achieve global rehabilitation and make a lifelong lifestyle change. This change includes abstaining from illicit mood-altering substances and related antisocial activities, improving work ethic and employability, and integrating prosocial behaviors and values into everyday life. Research has shown that individuals participating in traditional therapeutic community programs are more successful at maintaining abstinence and have better interpersonal outcomes compared to similar populations that did not participate in such programs.
